Planning a destination wedding on Spain’s stunning Costa Blanca? One of the most powerful tools to bring your vision to life (and communicate it clearly to your wedding team) is a well-thought-out mood board. Whether you imagine beachfront boho, vineyard romance, or sleek Mediterranean chic, a mood board helps clarify your style and ensures everyone is working towards the same visual goal.

And here’s the best part: a strong mood board doesn’t just make your wedding look beautiful, it also helps your planner (that’s me!) identify the right local suppliers, stylists, and even venues that align with your aesthetic, budget, and vibe.

Step 1: Gather Your Inspiration

Begin by collecting images, colours, and textures that speak to your dream wedding. Look to:

  • Pinterest and Instagram
  • Wedding blogs (like Natasha Zwaga, who specialises in Spain-based celebrations)
  • Destination imagery, nature, and Mediterranean design
  • Your own wardrobe and home décor – these say more about your taste than you think!

Checklist:

  • Create a Pinterest board or digital folder
  • Screenshot ideas from wedding blogs and stylists
  • Take photos of locations, colours, and textures that inspire you
  • Identify any recurring patterns in your personal style

Step 2: Define Your Colour Palette

Colours set the mood - literally. Think soft neutrals against olive trees, terracotta and blush by the sea, or vibrant hues that pop in golden-hour light.

Checklist:

  • Choose one primary colour and 2–3 accents
  • Consider the season and the natural tones of your Costa Blanca venue
  • Reflect your personality or any cultural nods

Step 3: Pinpoint Key Styling Elements

A destination wedding doesn’t need over-styling, it needs the right styling. Choose a few standout elements that matter most to you:

  • Florals: Think locally grown blooms, olive branches, or dried textures
  • Venues: From rustic fincas to modern cliffside villas
  • Fashion: Flowing dresses, linen suits, or bold accessories that suit the setting
  • Tablescapes: Mediterranean ceramics, natural linens, seasonal fruits
  • Lighting: Lanterns, festoon lights, or dramatic uplighting for evening romance

Checklist:

  • Select key floral themes
  • Decide your preferred venue type
  • Lock in outfit vibes
  • Choose tableware, place settings, and accents
  • Explore lighting that enhances the setting

Step 4: Build Your Mood Board

Use tools like Canva or Pinterest to arrange your ideas. Or go old school and print images, grab scissors, and go tactile.  I think that's afun way to do it.

Checklist:

  • Choose a platform (Canva, Pinterest, Word, or collage board)
  • Arrange your visuals cohesively—avoid clashing styles
  • Include a few notes or captions for context

Step 5: Use Your Mood Board to Guide the Planning

Your mood board becomes the compass for your entire celebration. Share it early with your planner, stylist, florist, and venue manager. It:

  • Creates a shared visual language
  • Helps us match you with the right suppliers (like my UK colleague, award winning Debbie Marks at Qube Events for styling inspiration)
  • Keeps your decision-making focused and stress-free

Checklist:

  • Share with all key vendors
  • Use it to shortlist venues and define floral direction
  • Refer back before making major styling decisions
